The police have started their 2018 campaign to rid the streets of illegal guns and ammunition, with the arrest of three men in separate incidents, and the confiscation of two illegal guns and several rounds of ammunition within the last 36 hours.

The weapons and ammunition were alleged seized during a series of operations in sections of the Corporate Area and St Catherine.

In the latest incident, a firearm and several rounds of ammunition were seized by a team of officers in the Bamboo Ridge community of St Catherine on Monday.

A man was arrested and charged for the offences of illegal possession of firearm, illegal possession of ammunition, and escaping police custody.

Charged is 50-year-old Leroy Fennell, otherwise called ‘Daddy Ran’, a salesman of Mount Industry, St Catherine .

Reports from the Glengoffe police were that about 4:00 a.m., a party was in session in the community, when Fennell allegedly brandished a firearm and fired two shots.

Lawmen responded and the suspect was accosted and searched. A Glock 17 pistol with a magazine containing twelve 9mm rounds of ammunition was reportedly found in his possession.

Fennell was transported to the station, and while being processed by the lawmen, he reportedly assaulted an officer and escaped from the station. He was, however, subsequently recaptured by the police.

He is scheduled to appear before the Linstead Parish Court on January 10, to answer to the charges that have been laid against him.

In the second incident, a 357 Magnum revolver containing four .357 cartridges and one .38 cartridge, was reportedly seized on Glen Drive in Kingston.

A man was arrested and charged in relation to the find.

Charged with illegal possession of firearm and illegal possession of ammunition is 32-year-old Howard Sinclair, a mechanic of Glen Drive, Cassava Piece, Kingston 8.
