KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Meteorological (Met) Service has extended a flash flood watch for low-lying and flood-prone areas of Hanover, St James, Trelawny, St Ann, St Mary, and Portland until 5:00pm today.

Meanwhile, the flash flood watch for low-lying and flood-prone areas of St Thomas, Kingston and St Andrew has been discontinued.

According to the Met Service, although a stationary front just east of Jamaica continues to dissipate, unstable weather conditions are expected to persist across sections of the island.

The forecast is for mostly cloudy conditions with periods of showers and possible thunderstorms to continue to affect sections of most parishes, especially northern parishes throughout today. Flash flooding is therefore possible over some low-lying and flood prone areas of northern parishes, the Met Service said.

A flash flood watch means that flash flooding is possible and residents are advised to take precautionary measures, keep informed by checking further releases from the Met Service and be ready for quick action if flooding is observed or if a warning is issued.
